A think tank created by a Council Joint Action on 20 July 2001. It has the status of an autonomous agency that comes under the EU’s second ‘pillar’ – the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). Its aim is to help create a common European security culture, to enrich the strategic debate, and systematically to promote the interests of the Union. Internships are available to people having or about to obtain a first degree, as well as to young researchers from universities or research institutes. Applicants must be nationals of EU member states. The duration of interns’ stay at the Institute are normally between one and three months, depending on the Institute's requirements. The main task of interns will be to assist the research team, under the supervision of the research fellow responsible for the programme. Candidates should have a good knowledge of one of the Institute’s working languages (French and English). Interns receive a symbolic payment. The Institute cannot pay for travelling expenses, accommodation in Paris or medical cover. See 'Opportunities' for previous positions
